The foundation presented 15 bags of rice, toiletries including several cartoons of toothpaste, tissue, bathing and washing soaps, choral, amongst others to orphans at the UNECO Orphanage home in Brewerville, district 17 in Montserrado county recently.
The UNECO orphanage was established to cater for children left behind by ECOWAS and United Nations peacekeepers who came to Liberia on peace keeping mission.
It also provided feeding and distributed clothes and toys to hundreds of underprivileged children and students at the Kolu Sokodolo International Academy in Gola Konneh, Kinjor in Grand Cape Mount and Margibi counties respectively.
Making the donation recently, the foundation’s Public Relations Officer Abraham Parker disclosed that the gesture was made possible through the instrumentality of the Founder/General Overseer of the foundation Mrs. Kolu Sokodolo Walters and her spouse Mr. Moses Walters.
He stressed that Madam Walters, who also survived the challenging times in Liberia, remains cognizant of the need to identify with underprivileged and less fortunate citizens, especially during the festive season.
He emphasized that the donation to the UNECO orphanage came at a time the foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Madam Walters is battling with illness.
Parker stressed that despite her inability to move due to an accident at her work place in the US, Madam Walters did not allow her current condition to discourage her from putting smile on the faces of needy Liberians and others during this festive season.
He maintained that Madam Walters has not been deterred by her situation to abandon her responsibilities to the needy, including disadvantaged youths, old folks, amongst others.
“This tells us that this is something that she (Madam Walters) will continue to do regardless of what she is going through. As we’ve come here today, we also ask that you pray with us so that she can get back on her feet because she wants to do more. We’ve come today with some bags of rice and toiletries for you. This is our way, through the help of our CEO and her husband, to say Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” he added.
Speaking further, Parker recalled that Madam Walters has on numerous occasion waived the payment of registration fees for scores of students attending her tuition-free Kolu Sokodolo Children Academy in the Smell No Taste community in Margibi county.
He disclosed that the academy, which is providing quality education to hundreds of Liberian children, has been in existence for over six years.
“When God blessed Madam Sokodolo and she went to America she decided to be a help to her people back home. The vision came to her that she needs to give back to her people. She established a school and employed qualified teachers and pay them from her pockets on time.” he stated.

As a result of this, he disclosed that the foundation was birthed in Liberia and Sierra Leone to cater to less fortunate children, including women and girls.
Parker further recalled that the foundation, through its CEO, has constructed over three homes for elderly underprivileged women in Montserrado county.
He said persons with disabilities have also immensely benefited from financial assistance and the donations of food and other assorted items.
He noted that the humanitarian gestures and activities being carried out by Madam Walters are intended to buttress government’s efforts in providing basic needs for its citizens.
Receiving the donation, the Proprietress of the UNECO orphanage Madam Siah Cole commended Madam Walters and the team for the gesture.
She recalled that the establishment of the foundation to house and provide for children of former ECOWAS and UN peacekeepers in Liberia, was in fulfillment of the dream of her fallen husband.
“We are grateful to the almighty God and mother Kolu Sokodolo for this donation because, we were really in need. We were thinking how we will even manage for this season. But this God who is up there always answer prayers,” she stated.
She said though caretakers at the orphanage were opting and praying to receive a bag of rice to provide food for the nearly 30 orphans on Christmas Day, the donation of the 15 bags of rice by the foundation came as a surprise.
She, however, rendered prayers to God for his healing powers upon the life of the Liberian humanitarian.
“We pray strongly that our daughter and sister Kolu, who is in that condition but still decided to do God’s work-let God bless and heal her and add many years to her age. As God remembered Hezekiah on his sick bed, let God think about what she is doing for the needy; send his angel and remember her too,” Madam Cole added.
Beneficiaries from Grand Cape Mount and Margibi counties also extended their thanks and appreciation to Madam Walters and her husband for identifying with them.
They, however, called on other Liberians in the diaspora to emanate the good example of the couple.
The Kolu Sokodolo Children Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded in August 2016 that operates in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
It focuses on supporting underprivileged and vulnerable populations, particularly children, elderly people, women, girls, and disabled persons.
