MINNEAPOLIS (KVRR/FOX9) — Minneapolis leaders are working at this hour to confirm details about another shooting involving federal law enforcement around 7:30 tonight.
At least one person reportedly was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Minneapolis City Council member LaTrisha Vetaw on the scene told FOX 9 that ICE agents were trying to get someone out of a house when the shooting happened.
Minneapolis Police were not involved in the incident.
Department of Homeland Security in a statement said in part that officers were conducting a traffic stop on a man in the country illegally.
He ran into an apartment and other suspects joined him hit an officer with a shovel or broomstick and the officer fearing for his life fired shots hitting the suspect in the leg.
Suspects ran back inside an apartment but were eventually taken into custody.
Vetaw says she had gotten numerous calls from concerned constituents.
A reporter and photographer on scene had to run to get out of tear gas that was being fired at the crowd and he says it impacted his throat and eyes.
A judge is giving the Trump administration until next week to respond to a request to suspend an immigration crackdown in Minnesota.
More than 2,000 people have been detained or arrested since the surge in ICE operations started last month.
