Chefs of Compassion
Tickets are on sale for the 15th annual Chefs of Compassion: Cooking for a Cause gala on March 27. The fundraiser benefits West Valley Community Services (WVCS), a nonprofit whose programs support low-income and homeless individuals and families in Cupertino, Los Gatos, Saratoga and West San Jose.
The evening features top Bay Area chefs competing to create a multi-course meal using ingredients found in the WVCS pantry, where clients receive food. A panel of professional judges chooses the winner; there’s also a people’s choice award.
Tickets are $185 at https://bit.ly/3MlBudQ.
Growing Asian vegetables
Saratoga Library is hosting a Feb. 10 workshop on how to grow Asian vegetables.
Emily Maslyn will be presenting how to plan for and grow a variety of produce to be harvested in late spring and early summer. Maslyn joined the Santa Clara County Master Gardener program in 2013. Although she was born and raised in Taiwan, she has lived in the Bay Area since the early 1990s.
The event is sponsored by Friends of the Saratoga Libraries, the UC Master Gardener program and the Santa Clara County Library District.
The workshop will take place in the community room from 7-8:30 p.m.
Tech help
Saratoga Library is offering two resources to improve technological literacy.
The first is a technology class for digital hygiene. It will teach people about internet cookies, credit freezing, secure passwords, password managers, multi-factor authentication and cell phone verification. It will take place in the community room on Feb. 23 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
The library also offers drop-in tech help on a first-come-first-served basis in the Oak Room on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Experts offer one-on-on instruction on laptops, computers, tablets, e-readers, smartphones and smart watches.
