Bicyclist dies from injuries suffered in December Oakland collision with car

OAKLAND — A bicyclist hit by a vehicle in Chinatown Dec.  27  has died from his injuries, authorities said.

Feixiong Qin, who authorities said turned 66 after the collision and had addresses in Oakland and Hayward, died Jan. 11 at a hospital.

He was riding a bicycle in a designated lane going southbound on Webster Street just after 5 p.m. Dec. 27 when according to initial police reports he was struck by a Toyota Prius making a turn from southbound Webster Street to westbound 12th Street.

Police confirmed Qin was not wearing a helmet.

The vehicle driver, a San Leandro man, remained at the scene and provided a statement to police, Lt. Tim Dolan, the lead investigator, said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, pending follow-up interviews and retrieval of video surveillance camera footage of the collision, police said.

It doesn’t appear that alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in the collision, police said.
