FARGO — Hector International Airport invites media members in to show off the nearly complete terminal expansion.
The $155 million dollar project nearly doubles the number of gateways from 5 to 9, and is scheduled to be open to the public next week.
There are now recharging outlets underneath seats as well as tables that offer wireless charging, a nursing room for mothers, and bathrooms designed for people with special needs.
There is even a bathroom for service animals.
The new terminal also has an Immersive Reality room, the first of it’s kind in an airport in the U.S.
“Be More Colorful, on the NDSU campus, they were the ones that connected us to this, along with the Red River Valley Fairground – that does have the immersive reality room,” said Airport Authority Executive Director Shawn Dobberstein. “But it just looked like something that was very attractive to – for kids and adults – passengers of all ages to give them something to do as they were waiting for their flights.”
The original passenger terminal will also be remodeled to match the design of the new expansion.
That part of the project is set to begin in early 2027.
