Monrovia — Former First Lady and Vice President of Liberia, Jewel Howard Taylor, has announced with profound grief the death of her son, Philip Taylor, describing the loss as devastating and overwhelming.
“With deep sorrow, I announce the passing of my beloved son, Philip. My heart is shattered. The pain feels overwhelming and constant,” Taylor said in an emotional statement released to the public.
She described her son as the center of her life, noting that his love, light, and purpose gave meaning to her world.
“Philip was love, light, and purpose in my life. His presence shaped my days and gave meaning to my world. Words fall short in honoring who he was and what he meant to our family,” she added, appealing for prayers, strength, and grace as the family navigates the period of mourning.
Death Confirmed at JFK Hospital
Philip Taylor, formally known as Charles Phillip Taylor Jr., is the son of former Liberian President Charles Taylor and former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor. He died on Tuesday at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, according to family sources.
Details surrounding the cause of death have not been disclosed.
In her statement, the former Vice President expressed gratitude to friends, relatives, and well-wishers who have reached out in sympathy.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness, support, and well-wishes. Your compassion offers comfort as we mourn our precious son,” she said.

In July 2023, Taylor Jr. was celebrated by his family after earning a Master’s degree in Shipping and Port Administration from the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana—an achievement that drew praise from relatives and close associates.
