Liberia: Police IG Coleman Declares Samuel Jackson Suspect in Wife’s Death; Remains in Detention as Probe Continues

Monrovia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police has declared economist and political commentator Samuel Jackson a suspect in the death of his wife.

Police Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman told reporters late Saturday that Jackson, along with several relatives and staff members, will remain in detention at the police national headquarters while the investigation continues.

According to Coleman, the police have 48 hours under Liberian law to either formally charge Jackson and forward him to the appropriate court for prosecution or release him.

While the police did not publicly identify the other individuals being held, family sources told FrontPage Africa that Jackson’s driver, chef, and security personnel are also considered persons of interest and will remain in detention during the initial phase of the investigation.

The development follows a police search conducted at Jackson’s residence on Old Road in Sinkor, Monrovia.

Jackson disembarked police vehicle and taken in detention for further questioning.

Jackson, who had earlier been declared a person of interest in the investigation into the death of his wife, Toni Jackson, voluntarily turned himself in for questioning. After several hours of interrogation, police officers escorted him—along with his lawyers—to his residence, where investigators carried out a search of the premises.

During the operation, investigators reportedly collected specimens and other items believed to be relevant to the ongoing probe before returning Jackson to the police headquarters.

Jackson’s lawyers said they could not immediately confirm whether their client would be allowed to return home following the latest round of questioning, but emphasized that he is cooperating fully with investigators.

Police initially declared Jackson a person of interest following the death of his wife.

According to Jackson, he discovered his wife semi-unconscious in their bedroom after returning home from a talk show. She was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia, where she later died after undergoing brain surgery.
