Liberia: President Boakai Consoles Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor Following Son’s Death

Monrovia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has paid a condolence visit to former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor at her Congo Town residence following the death of her son, Charles Philip Taylor.

Footage from the visit showed President Boakai embracing Madam Taylor as she wept. Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana said it was fitting for the President to personally visit and sympathize with the former Vice President during her time of bereavement.

Several senior government officials, including cabinet ministers and senators, were also seen at the residence to express their condolences.

Philip Taylor passed away on Tuesday. In a brief but emotional statement shared on Instagram, Madam Taylor described the loss as devastating and overwhelming.

“With deep sorrow, I announce the passing of my beloved son, Philip. My heart is shattered. The pain feels overwhelming and constant,” the former Vice President said.

She expressed appreciation to friends, relatives, and well-wishers who have extended messages of sympathy and support during this difficult period.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness, support, and well-wishes. Your compassion offers comfort as we mourn our precious son,” she added.

Details surrounding the cause of death have not been disclosed.
