The event drew hundreds of cheering students, faculty, local dignitaries and community members, who gathered on the bustling main campus amid colorful banners and the rhythmic beats of Traditional Grand Gedeh Drums.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd from a podium draped in the national colors, Vice President Koung revealed that the project stems directly from a formal request by the university’s dynamic student leadership.

“We felt a moral obligation to champion their vision,” he declared, his voice carrying over the murmurs of approval.

The new center promises to serve as a vibrant campus hub, equipped with modern study lounges, event spaces, dining areas, and recreational facilities to enrich both academic pursuits and social interactions for the growing student body.

VP Koung highlighted how this initiative fits into the Unity Party-led Government’s aggressive push for development in Grand Gedeh, one of Liberia’s southeastern frontiers long underserved by infrastructure.

He pointed to the university’s own founding during former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s 12-year tenure as a transformative milestone.

“The Sirleaf-Boakai Administration’s bold decentralization of higher education—establishing colleges and universities in nearly every county spared countless young Liberians the hardship of uprooting to Montserrado County for a degree,” VP Koung said, earning nods from elders in the audience who recalled those challenging days.

Flanked by university administrators and local lawmakers, the Vice President underscored the center’s role in fostering the next generation of leaders amid Grand Gedeh’s lush rubber plantations and resilient communities.

While project costs remain undisclosed pending final bids, VP Koung announced that construction crews will mobilize next week, targeting completion within the year to coincide with the academic calendar.

Students like third-year engineering major Patience Tokpah expressed elation: “This isn’t just a building it’s a beacon for our dreams.” As the crowd dispersed into the late afternoon heat, optimism hung in the air, signaling yet another step toward equitable growth in Liberia’s heartland.
